SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
WOOD FLOORS – NEW: Surfaces must be clean, smooth and dry. Remove wax, grease, etc. Avoid using fillers that contain stearates. Sand surfaces finishing with fine sandpaper in the direction of the grain. Remove dust by vacuuming and then tack mop using clean, lint free rags moistened with mineral spirits or naphtha.
WOOD FLOORS – OLD: Remove old finishes completely. Sand and prepare surfaces same as new work.
CONCRETE AND EPOXY FLOORS: Request appropriate literature and directions on cleaning, preparation and application from CLASSIC WORLD Coatings. Apply only to properly cleaned and prepared surfaces.
HANDLING: Loosen closure carefully, container may be under slight pressure. Withdraw only enough from original container for use in one day. After withdrawal, keep container closed to prevent contact with moisture vapor which may cause gellation. Material withdrawn from original container should be stored separately and used promptly.
APPLICATION – WOOD FLOORS: See side panels for thinning instructions and important notes on use of Satin Finishes. Seal sanded surfaces with one coat of CLASSIC WORLD Moisture Curing Polyurethane. Apply by brush or lamb’s wool applicator at room temperature and not in direct sunlight. Apply cross grain and finish with grain in long even strokes. Avoid excessive brushing. Allow finish to dry 12 to 18 hours and then screen sand with 80 grit screening discs. Proper sanding is evidenced by a matte finish, and generation of a light powder on the surface. Vacuum and tack mop before re-coating using a lint free cloth moistened with mineral spirits or fast dry naphtha. Apply one or two more coats of finish making sure to screen, vacuum and tack mop between coats. Floors are ready for use after 24 hours curing of final coat. Cure time will vary depending on temperature and humidity. NOTE: Where sanding between coats is impractical, recoat within 12 hours.
STAINING: Apply stains according to manufacturer’s instructions on can. Allow stain to dry at least 24 hours before re-coating with CLASSIC WORLD Moisture Cure Finishes. In hot or humid weather, stain may require an additional 24 to 72 hours dry time.
COVERAGE: 300 to 600 square feet per gallon depending upon surface.
DRYING & CURING: Best results are obtained when temperature is between 65°F and 95°F and relative humidity between 50% and 70%. If Gloss or Satin Moisture Cure takes too long to set and dry, add 1 to 3 oz. of Moisture Cure Catalyst per gallon to speed up dry time. In extremely hot and humid weather, Moisture Cure may set up too quickly. The addition of 4 to 8 oz. per gallon of Moisture Cure Retarder will slow set time and improve flow and leveling.
OPENING FLOORS TO TRAFFIC: To avoid premature scuffing and marring, before opening floors to heavy traffic, allow a minimum of 48 to 72 hours additional cure time after application of final coat of finish.
CLEAN-UP: All equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with CLASSIC WORLD Moisture Cure Reducer or xylol.
WARNING: Floors finished with polyurethane may become slippery when wet.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON USE OF MOISTURE CURE SATIN FINISHES
FOR MAXIMUM DURABILITY AND INTER-COAT ADHESION – Apply CLASSIC WORLD Satin Finish Moisture Curing Polyurethanes as a last coat only, over 1 or 2 coats of gloss finish. Failure to follow this method may result in improper wear and scratching. NOTE: Do not mix Moisture Cure Gloss and Moisture Cure Satin to achieve higher or lower gloss. Improper mixing may lead to variations in gloss causing uneven dull or shiny spots on floor. Do not mix Standard Aromatic and Non-Yellowing Aliphatic materials. Be sure to stir Satin Finish well before and during use.
DIRECTIONS FOR THINNING
IN VOC REGULATED AREAS DO NOT ADD THINNER TO THIS PRODUCT
In all other areas, thin first coat to gloss moisture cure 5 to 15% with CLASSIC WORLD Moisture Cure Reducer. Then successive coats 5 to 10%. Do not thin Satin Finish Moisture Cure unless heat or high humidity is causing flash drying and excessive brush drag.
