PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS
HAZARDS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS
WARNING. Flammable liquid and Vapor, Contains Ethanol may be harmful if swallowed or inhaled. Causes eye irritation. Harmful if absorbed through skin. Prolonged or frequently repeated skin contact may cause allergic reaction in some individuals. Causes skin irritation. Do not breathe vapors, spray mist, dust or chips from sanding. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. While spraying paint, or sanding surface, wear a mask or respirator approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Wear protective clothing (long sleeved cotton shirt, long pants, hat, gloves (such as nitril or butyl). Shoes and socks. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling and before eating, drinking, using tobacco or using the toilet. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use adequate ventilation.
Reports have associated repeated and prolonged exposure to solvents with permanent brain and nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents may be harmful or fatal.
Follow manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning/maintaining Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). If no such instructions for washables exist, use detergent and hot water. Keep and wash PPE separately from other laundry.
FIRST AID
IF IN EYES: Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice.
IF SWALLOWED: Call a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice. Have a person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a poison control center or doctor. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
IF ON SKIN OR CLOTHING: Take off contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment.
IF INHALED: Move person to fresh air. If person is not breathing, call 911 or an ambulance, then give artificial respiration, preferably mouth to mouth, if possible. Call a poison control center or doctor immediately for further treatment advice. For additional information in case of emergency call toll free Chemtrec – 1-800-424-9300. Have the product container or label with you when calling a poison control center or doctor or going for treatment.
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL HAZARDS (STORAGE)
Do not use or store near heat, sparks or open flame. Do not smoke. Extinguish all flames and pilot lights and turn off stoves, heaters, electric motors and other sources of ignition during use and until all vapors are gone.
Spill: Absorb with inert and dispose of as specified under “Clean Up”.
Clean Up: Denatured ethanol or household ammonia. To avoid spontaneous combustion, soak soiled rags and waste immediately after use in water-filled, closed metal container.
IMPORTANT STORAGE AND DISPOSAL-DANGER! Rags, steel wool or waste soaked with the product may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after use place the rags, steel wool or waste in sealed water-filled metal container. Do not store unused product inside the home. Store in well-ventilated place, keep container tightly closed.
Disposal: This product contains organic solvents which may cause adverse effects to the environment if handled improperly. Empty containers may retain residue. Follow label warnings even after the container is emptied. Residual vapor may explode on ignition. For disposal guidance, contact your sanitation department or State-designated environmental agency.

KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN
SURFACE PREPARATION: For best results, use at temperature between 60° F and 80° F. Allow longer dry times on damp, humid days. Surface must be dry, clean, & free from old finish, wax, grease or dust. Use NOFMA or NWFA recommended sanding schedule for hardwood floors. Final sand floor with 100 or 120 grit screen or sandpaper. Clean surface thoroughly to remove dust.
SEALING DIRECTIONS: DO NOT APPLY SEAL KOTE OVER STAIN AS PEELING MAY OCCUR. FOR APPLYING FINSH OVER STAINS, PLEASE FOLLOW STAIN MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATION & DIRECTIONS.
DRY TIME: SEAL KOTE needs to dry a minimum of 1 hour before topcoating with polyurethane. Stir contents of can before using to insure a uniform blend and proper adhesion of sealer. Apply only one coat of SEAL KOTE at the rate of a minimum of 500 sq. ft. per gallon. Do not apply heavy or peeling of topcoat may occur.
RECOMMENDED ABRASION – FOR BEST RESULTS THIS SEALER MUST BE ABRADED. After application of SEAL KOTE allow to dry 45-60 minutes before abrading. Use a maroon pad, medium to fine steel wool screen or sandpaper. Screen to prepare for topcoating of polyurethane.
WARNING! IF YOU SCRAPE, SAND OR REMOVE OLD PAINT, YOU MAY RELEASE LEAD DUST. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. IMPORTANT
If shellac turns black it is due to one of the following reasons:
- Old sealer in metal can may become contaminated due to contact with the metal. Always test sealer on a sample board and allow to dry. If sealer turns black, sealer must be discarded. If sealer dries to proper clear color, it is suitable for use.
- Some wood, such as oak, contains a high degree of tannic acid which will turn sealer gray or black. If this occurs, dissolve 1 oz. Oxalic acid in 1 qt. of fresh sealer and apply to original color.
INGREDIENTS: Ethyl Alcohol (64-17-4), Isopropyl Alcohol (67-63-0), N-propyl Acetate (109-60-4), Natural shellac resin (9000-59-3), Rosin Ester Resin (Proprietary).
MAXIMUM VOC CONTENT: 730 grams/liter
